Come join us for a retrospective celebration of 75 years of preserving and giving access to our community and state history!
The Kentucky Room first began at the public library in April, 1949, with the creation of the rare books vault, and opened to the public that August. Since that time, the "Kentuckiana collection" has expanded to over 17,000 items, including books, local music, old newspapers, and local objects and records. Staff have created a local history index for researchers, a digital archive, history podcast, and downloadable walking tours for public use, and have helped researchers locally and worldwide, with tens of thousands of questions. The collection has some items that are hundreds of years old, and many of the items were generously donated by the community. Local school groups and international researchers use the Kentucky Room to connect and learn about their roots.
