Thousands of colonial soldiers served in the French and Indian War (1754 to 1763) and Pontiacs Rebellion (1763 to 1764) at times with Virginians composing entire brigades. These soldiers were granted land warrants for their service at the end of the French and Indian War in 1763 and the settlement of the Ohio Valley was opened at the Treaty of Fort Stanwix in 1768. Between 1769 and 1779 most land warrants issued by Virginia were for service in the French and Indian War or Pontiacs Rebellion. In this presentation, military historian, Walter Bowman, will discuss briefly the wars in general with a closer look at these conflicts in the Ohio Valley and the awarding of land warrant grants in Kentucky for military service.
