Join Roda Ferraro, Director of Keeneland Library, as she presents The Heart of the Turf: Racing’s Black Pioneers, a talk with Q&A that highlights the lives and careers of African American horsemen and women from the mid-1800s to today. From racetrack superstars to behind-the-scenes caretakers, The Heart of the Turf showcases local history and select stories of the countless African Americans who forged their way in Lexington and beyond, making the racing industry what it is today.
Ferraro will provide the first 50 program attendees with a free copy of The Heart of the Turf: Racing’s Black Pioneers exhibit companion book - the first chronicle of its kind and a local history must read.
